The award-winning Cedar Rapids Eco Film Festival will kick of its sixth year on Saturday, November 10, at Mount Mercy University. It is the first year for the festival to be held on Mount Mercy's campus. Events will take place in Donnelly Hall 300. Event organizers hope moving the event from Coe College to Mount Mercy will draw more people.
"The Mount Mercy campus will offer an abundance of parking closer to the venue, which will hopefully draw more people from the Cedar Rapids community," said Mount Mercy's Sustainability Director Travis Hess.
Coe College Professor of Theatre Arts Susan Wolverton agrees.
"I've been involved in the Eco Film Fest for several years and we're always looking for ways to get new folks involved. It seemed like moving to Mount Mercy would help us accomplish that," Wolverton said.
The Eco Film Festival's mission is to provide the Cedar Rapids community with powerful short and feature-length films on various environmental topics to educate, inspire and motivate its audience to take action on environmental issues.
This year's event will feature two full-length films: Bag It and Mother Nature's Child. Various short films will also be shown, which focus on water quality and local economies.
Organizations involved in this year's event include: Mount Mercy University, Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center, Indian Creek Nature Center, Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Center, Linn County Chapter United Nations, Trees Forever, Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency, City of Cedar Rapids Stormwater Program, Coe College and the Cedar-Wapsie Sierra Club.
The Cedar Rapids Eco Film Festival is free and open to the public; seating may be limited. For additional information, including further film details and a schedule of events, visit http://CRecofilmfest.com or find the film festival's Facebook page.
