To celebrate the fall inauguration of President Laurie Hamen, Mount Mercy University has partnered with Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity (CVHFH) to construct three new Cedar Rapids homes. As announced in December, Mount Mercy faculty, staff and students will provide labor for CVHFH Youth United and Pope Francis Build projects.

Members from the university community will staff build sights once a month as part of what the school has named Habitat Saturdays. Mount Mercy volunteers will work on the Youth Build at 324 7th Street SW for the first time on Saturday, January 17 from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. President Hamen and her husband Bill will lead the mix of Mount Mercy volunteers.

“Nearly 25 Mount Mercy faculty, staff, students and friends are looking forward to participating in this opportunity to change lives,” said Isaiah Corbin, coordinator of volunteerism and service learning. “Giving back in meaningful ways is at the heart of our campus and is the backbone of a Mercy education.”
