Mount Mercy University was selected to receive a $4 million matching grant from The Hall-Perrine Foundation. The grant is to be used toward the university’s athletic complex capital project, which was announced in early June.

“We’re grateful that The Hall-Perrine Foundation has been very supportive of Mount Mercy over the years,” said Interim President Norm Nielsen, “and this, the largest gift Mount Mercy has received from Hall-Perrine to date, will help us accelerate our development of the property.”

The future athletic complex, located at 909 17th Street NE in Cedar Rapids, will provide space for 6 of the university’s 15 intercollegiate athletic teams and 275 total student athletes, enriching campus life, increasing student engagement, and enhancing intramural programs.

“This athletic complex is a large-scale project that requires significant donor support,” said Nielsen. “We thank the individuals at The Hall-Perrine Foundation who saw the value in this project and wanted to help Mount Mercy continue growing and advancing.”

The total projected cost for the athletic complex is $15 million and will be funded by financial gifts to the university. When complete, the 22-acre athletics complex will provide a permanent home field for baseball, softball, track and field, and soccer.

Donor opportunities and naming rights remain available. In order to receive the full grant, Mount Mercy must raise $7 million, of which $1 million has already been committed.
