Mount Mercy’s Students in Human Resource Management (SIHRM) Club has been recognized with the Student Chapter Merit Award of Excellence from the national Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
The annual award recognizes SIHRM chapters for outstanding activities and projects pertaining to chapter requirements, operations, programming, and professional development of members, support of the human resources profession, and SHRM engagement.
Throughout the 2012 – 2013 academic year, Mount Mercy’s SIHRM Club completed 28 projects designed to benefit the entire Mount Mercy community in advancing knowledge of human resources and business practices. SIHRM partnered with the Anamosa State Penitentiary to help train inmates on finding employment opportunities, completing online applications, and practicing interview techniques, after their release. Another highlight of the year included an etiquette dinner SIHRM co-sponsored with Mount Mercy’s Enactus Club, in which alumna Joyce Nelson Shellhart ’77, author of Dress to Impress How a Navy Blazer Changed My Life, served as keynote speaker.
“It was an exciting year for SIHRM,” said Assistant Professor of Business and SIHRM Advisor Tracy Tunwall. “We were able to offer a lot of events that benefited our students and increased their ability to succeed in the workplace.”
